To promote safer coexistence between people and wildlife, Nature’s Buddy, in collaboration with the Uttarakhand Forest Department and Kalagarh Tiger Reserve, conducted community awareness programmes in forest fringe villages.

An awareness session in Rathuadhab village focused on practical measures to reduce human–wildlife conflict. Villagers were briefed on species-specific do’s and don’ts for elephants, leopards, and tigers, safe waste management practices, livestock protection methods, and proper reporting protocols with the Forest Department. The programme also highlighted the importance of clearing invasive Lantana camara to improve habitat quality and reduce wildlife movement near settlements.

In Maidawan village, a nukkad natak (street play) on Human–Wildlife Conflict Mitigation was jointly conducted by Kalagarh Tiger Reserve and Nature’s Buddy. The programme saw participation from around 60 students and nearly 50 local residents. Through engaging performances and interactive discussions, participants learned essential safety measures and responsible behavior to minimize conflict with wildlife.

These initiatives emphasize the role of community awareness, participation, and timely communication in preventing conflict and strengthening coexistence between humans and wildlife
